| نزاع قدیم و جدید، و یا سنتگرایی و نوگرایی، و یا محافظه کاری و اصلاح طلبی، نزاعی جدید نیست و پیشینه اش به قرن ها پیش از نزاع سنت و مدرنیته برمی گردد. نزاع اخیر را هم شاید بتوان ادامه همان صف آرایی دانست. نویسنده در نوشتار حاضر سنتگرایی و نوگرایی و عقاید هر یک را مورد مداقه قرار داده است. به زعم نویسنده، سنت (میراث گذشتگان)، ثمره علم و عقل نسل های پیاپی است که از آزمایشگاه تاریخ سرافراز بیرون آمده است. شرط پاسداری از این میراث، محافظه کاری است، و شرط افزودن بر آن، اصلاح طلبی.هر دو این ها لازم هستند. بنابراین، باید اجازه داد تا محافظه کاران و اصلاح طلبان با یکدیگر زورآزمایی کنند. حاصل این زورآزمایی میان دیروز و امروز، فردای پربارتر است. | ||

| The conflict between new and old, traditionalism and modernism, or conservativism and reformism is not a new one. In fact, its history dates back to centuries before the conflict between tradition and modernity. One can probably say the recent conflict is the continuation of the same array. In this article, the author is going to study traditionalism and modernism and the ideas of each one of them. According to the author, tradition (the legacy of the past), is the result of the knowledge and reason of successive generations which have passed all the tests through the history successfully. In order to protect this heritage, we need to be conservative; and in order to extend it, we need to be reformist. Both of these approaches are necessary. Thus, conservatives and reformists should be allowed to dispute. This disagreement and dispute between yesterday and today will result in a more productive tomorrow. | ||
