| Aiming to elucidate the ontological foundations of ethics in the Holy Qur’an, this research re-reads the central concept of Ḥaqq in light of the “theory of existential fittingness.” Formulated to address the challenge of moral value’s foundation while avoiding reductionism, this theory views value as an objective reality stemming from a “fitting existential relationship” among beings. The article investigates whether the Qur’anic concept of Ḥaqq can be understood as representing this existential fittingness and the mechanism regulating universal relations. Using a descriptive-analytical method, the theory of existential fittingness is employed not as an a priori interpretive presupposition, but rather as an a posteriori explanatory apparatus for understanding Qur’anic data. Following a semantic analysis of Ḥaqq, its Qur’anic applications are examined across three horizons: creation (khalq), genesis (takwīn), and resurrection (qiyāmah). Findings indicate that in the logic of the Qur’an, Ḥaqq transcends mere propositional truth, signifying existential fittingness. In the horizon of creation, Ḥaqq is the principle of the universe’s wise foundation, negating absurdity. In the horizon of genesis, it acts as the criterion for survival and perishing; such that Bāṭil (falsehood) is an unfitting realization doomed to perish. In the resurrection horizon, Ḥaqq manifests as the “weight of deeds,” where each action’s value is measured by its degree of existential fittingness. Ultimately, this study demonstrates that this re-reading portrays the Qur’anic moral system not as a purely conventional construct, but as the reflection of an existential law rooted in reality’s objective structure. | ||
