| چکیده | ||

| چکیده [English] | ||
| In the tradition of the Abrahamic religions, particularly in Islamic theology, peace is not merely a political or contractual concept. Rather, it is fundamentally connected to justice, human dignity, fulfillment of covenants, rejection of aggression, protection of the oppressed, mutual security, and the right of nations to self-determination. Accordingly, not every situation described as “peace” can necessarily be regarded as religiously, ethically, and justly legitimate. At times, peace serves as a means of ending violence, eliminating oppression, and restoring human security; at other times, the same term may become a cover for imposing the will of dominant powers, consolidating occupation, restricting nations’ defensive capabilities, normalizing discrimination, and silencing the resistance of the oppressed. Using a descriptive-analytical method and drawing on Qur’anic, hadith, theological, jurisprudential, historical, legal, and political sources, this article examines the relationship between just peace and legitimate resistance in light of Iran’s confrontation with U.S. and Israeli policies. The central question is whether the religious call for peace entails abandoning resistance to aggression, sanctions, occupation, and the excessive demands of major powers, or whether, within religious reasoning, legitimate resistance can be defended as a means of preventing imposed peace and achieving lasting peace. The findings indicate that the Holy Qur’an, the Prophetic tradition, the Nahj al-Balagha, Islamic theology and jurisprudence, just war theory, and contemporary international law all distinguish between genuine peace and imposed submission. Within this framework, resistance to domination, the unilateral U.S. withdrawal from the JCPOA, harmful sanctions, military threats, military attacks in recent years, occupation, and one-sided security arrangements may be regarded as legitimate from religious, ethical, and legal perspectives, provided that such resistance is accompanied by justice, the abandonment of excessive demands and coercion, avoidance of retaliation, fulfillment of commitments, media integrity, and readiness for genuine peace. The article concludes that Iran’s legitimacy in this conflict can be understood fundamentally in terms of defending independence, mutual security, rejecting domination, and pursuing a just peace. This conclusion, however, is subject to the qualification that legitimate resistance is distinct from indiscriminate violence, hate speech, glorification of war, or disregard for human suffering. | ||
